For those who know me well, it will come as no surprise that I'm an extreme type-A personality. You're laughing now, I know... No, this is not AA... "Type-A's Anonymous." It just goes without saying that, I'm pretty good at DOING ministry, planning events, and sustaining a program on my own. Sadly, & too often in the past, that has been the case.
In my 20 years + in college ministry, I've never experienced such a clear leading from God for such a clear vision of what this ministry could become. In a sense, I feel as if I'm being dragged (or even pushed) along. Honestly, I find it refreshingly intimidating. & if I think about it too long it straight up scares me to death because I feel helpless to DO ministry out of my type A-ness. I'm having to totally rely on Yahweh for everything.
Here's a recent example: I'll admit it, I've been a little worried about how we were going to do anything for Welcome Week in August with absolutely ZERO budget. So much so, that I've kinda been telling God he's going to have to show up. Well, in Mid-June my friend & the Children's Pastor @ my church approached me with "Would you be interested in leading one of our Missions Rooms during VBS this summer? You know, since you're a Texas Baptist Missionary & all. I was thinking you could talk to our children about what BSM is, why it's important, & then they could help you make Survival Kits for college students. Could you use 400 Survival Kits?" My answer, "Ummmmm, yes please!" I know, very eloquent. But sometimes when you can see what Yahweh is doing around you, you're left... well, speechless... (& if you know me well @ all, you know this rarely happens).
Last week, I not only got to tell over 400 children about BSM & that it can be in important part of their spiritual journey once they go to college but those VBS'ers (K-4th graders) made 440 College Survival Kits. We're looking forward to passing these out during Welcome Week this August. Each Survival Kit contains: a water bottle, granola bar, gum, 2 clean-wipes, 2 pens, 2 pencils, & BSM related flyers/info. Here are a few pictures from our week.
